Recommended Settings and Tips

As fellow crafters, we understand the stress related to finding the right settings to work with your material. We strive to find products that can be used with the proofgrade settings, to do this we test every product before adding it to our shelves. If you do not see a recommended setting on this page, check the item description! Feel free to reach out to us for any clarification you may need, we are always here to help! As a reminder these are recommended settings and results could vary. As always when cutting new material remember to "test" a small circle or square first!

1/16" Acrylic
This acrylic is already masked with paper masking for you! Masking helps prevent burn marks on your acrylic. You can use 250/Full to cut this thickness. You can also use 1000 Speed Full Power 270 Lines Per Inch to engrave

1/8" Acrylic (Color, Clear, Fluorescent, Translucent)
This acrylic is already masked with paper masking for you! Masking helps prevent burn marks on your acrylic.  You can use the proofgrade setting for Medium Black Acrylic. You can use e6000, 3M double-sided adhesive sheets or Weldon to glue pieces of acrylic together. (Tip: If you plan on painting the engraved area on your acrylic, leave your masking tape on after engraving/scoring. Then go over it with a paint pen, let it dry, then remove your masking tape!)

1/4" Acrylic (Color, Clear, Fluorescent, Translucent)
This acrylic is already masked with paper masking for you! Masking helps prevent burn marks on your acrylic.  You can use the proofgrade setting for Thick Black Acrylic. You can use e6000, 3M double-sided adhesive sheets or Weldon to glue pieces of acrylic together.

1/8" Mirror Acrylic
We recommend removing the clear plastic on your mirror acrylic and masking both sides of the acrylic. Masking both sides of the acrylic will prevent the silver backing from getting damaged. When cutting or engraving we like to put the silver side up and mirror our design. You can use the proofgrade setting for Medium Black Acrylic. If you notice you are still getting flashback, you can try raising the acrylic off your honeycomb bed with scraps/pins. You can use e6000, 3M double-sided adhesive sheets, but NEVER use Weldon on mirror acrylic it will melt it!

1/8" Glitter Acrylic
We recommend using the proofgrade Medium Black Acrylic setting. Some glitters may require 2 passes, due to the flakes being larger/thicker.

Flexible Sheets
Flexibrass is a flexible metal looking plastic that is laser safe. Flexibrass is thin enough to cut with your scissors, so you can choose to put the whole sheet in your bed or just a small section. Before putting the material in your bed you will need to remove the clear plastic covering on the front. The material should go color side up. This material is also light weight, so using honeycomb pins to hold it in place is a must. You will need to change your focus point to .020. We recommended cutting flexibrass at a speed of 430 and power of 100 setting. When engraving flexibrass we recommend you use a speed of 1000 and power of 30. Engraving flexibrass will show the color on the backside, which is often black.

1/8” Hardwood Plywood
We recommend masking both sides of your plywood to reduce burn marks. Make sure to change your focus point to .196 (confirm this by using a caliper) and cut using a speed of 200 and full power.

1/4” Baltic Birch
We recommend masking both sides of your plywood to reduce burn marks. Make sure to change your focus point to .250 (confirm this by using a caliper) and cut using a speed of 165 and full power and use two passes.

Laserable Leatherette

Leatherette does not need to be masked; we find wiping it with a damp cloth is sufficient. To adhere leatherette that does not come with adhesive, we typically use 3M, e6000, or a fabric glue from a craft store. Laserable Leatherette offers the look and feel of genuine leather at a fraction of the price, while being thin enough you can cut it with scissors. We recommend cutting leatherette using Proofgrade Thin Leather setting. For engraving we recommend using speed 600, power 12, and lines per inch 225. However, for the Red/Black and Black/Gold Leatherette Sheets, and Snap Up Trays in Black or Gray, we recommend speed 600, power 5, and lines per inch 225.
